Wespine staff and their families helped kick off planting for Wespine’s new plantation, Maranup 3.
Forester Trevor Radford said that the day was a great opportunity for Wespine sawmill staff and their families to get their hands dirty and experience the other side of the pine process.
“The plantation is 320 hectares and Wespine staff and their families planted around 1.5 hectares of it, which is close to 2,000 seedlings and a great effort for first time planters,” Mr. Radford said.
“It was a good opportunity for sawmill workers, to see where it all starts, and many were quite surprised at all the effort that goes into preparing and planting a plantation.”
Forest Industries Federation of Western Australian President Matt Granger also attended to speak about the Djarlma Plan and what it means for the industry going forward.
“Matt’s talk on the Djarmla Plan was well received and relevant, as everyone in attendance would be impacted by the future of the industry,” Mr. Radford said.
The Wespine staff in attendance were grateful to Trevor and Brad Barr from Wespine for helping to organise the planting day.
