Speciality timbers go under the hammer in Manjimup

18 June 2015

The Forest Products Commission (FPC) is expecting spirited bidding from wood enthusiasts and craftspeople when approximately 17 cubic metres of speciality timbers are auctioned at FPC’s Manjimup Nursery at 10.00 am on Saturday 27 June 2015.

“A large selection of timbers from the South West and Goldfields regions will be going under the hammer,” said FPC auction coordinator Steve Davis. “The lots available are in a range of sizes that would suit furniture making, wood turning and craft items.”

Timber species from the South West region include feature grade jarrah, jarrah burl, marri, blackbutt, wandoo, woody pear and sugar gum.

“Some of the jarrah burls on offer are uniquely figured and would be ideal for table tops,” explains Mr Davis.

Beautiful Goldfields timbers will also be available; including Goldfields blackbutt, gimlet, corkwood, native willow, western myall, sandalwood, salmon gum, redwood and mulga.

“FPC generally holds its auctions in Harvey, however once a year we have one in Manjimup to give buyers in our lower South West region the opportunity to purchase some of Western Australia’s unique timbers,” said Mr Davis. “A large quantity of the timber offered for sale at our auctions is salvaged from land clearing projects, such as mining and road construction.”

The timber can be inspected at FPC’s Manjimup Nursery on Burnside Road in West Manjimup, between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm on Friday 26 June 2015. For further information please contact Steve Davis on 0427 380 632.

A catalogue of the lots for sale will be available the week before the auction from the auctioneer’s website
