Community Notice - FPC harvesting operation in Margaret plantation

24 April 2020

The Forest Products Commission (FPC) will commence harvesting operations in Margaret pine plantation in early May 2020.

The pines will be thinned. This involves harvesting some trees to provide more growing space for the remaining trees which will grow to maturity before being harvested. The harvesting operation will take 4-6 weeks to complete.

The plantation harvest area is located directly behind the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) office and depot, west of the Margaret River by-pass road.

The southern edge of the plantation borders publicly accessible river walk trails. Signage will be in place to demarcate the work site with authorised access only. Please be aware that there will be a harvesting operation in progress and pedestrian entry to the site is a safety risk and is strictly prohibited.

Haulage trucks will use the DBCA office and depot road off Bussell Highway as entry and exit point with 5-6 truck movements per day expected.

The FPC values your feedback on our operations, as well as any other suggestions you may have to improve the integration of plantations in your local community. For more information regarding pine plantation operations in your local area, please contact Russell Wornes on (08) 9725 5218 or email russell.wornes@fpc.wa.gov.au.
