Supplementary notes
The following notes should be read an conjunction with the 1-year annual harvest plans.
Explanatory notes
- The net plan area is the total coupe area less informal and other reserves set aside from timber harvesting. Within the area, detailed coupe planning will further reduce the area available to be harvested through silvicultural exclusion zones and applying other constraints. Areas will be harvested to a range of silvicultural objectives including thinning, regeneration establishment (shelterwood) and regeneration release (gap creation) for jarrah, and clearfell or thinning for karri.
- The supply of other log products will be subject to demand.
- Additional sawlog volume may be generated from clearing operations associated with utility construction, fencing, or other activities such as salvage from wildfire or storm events.
- Harvesting operations in some coupes will extend beyond the twelve month period, so a portion of coupes and log volumes will ‘carry-over’ into the next year. Other coupes may not be commenced in the nominated year and are usually also carried over.
Footnotes
In the listing of coupes to be harvested, symbols may be placed next to some of these as a note for additional information. The following table outlines the symbols in use within the harvesting plans:
- Registered Trade Mark (®) - Denotes coupes wholly or partly comprised of young regrowth karri, scheduled for first thinning operations. While these thinnings generate mainly chiplogs, some sawlogs may be available depending on the stand and operational settings.
- Asterix (*) - Denotes coupes where the location of indicative fauna habitat zones may need consideration
Change from Gross to Net Plan Area
Prior to the 2007 1-year harvest plan, the gross size (gross plan area, in hectares) of each forest compartment (or coupe) was presented in the plan. The gross area included informal reserves, Fauna Habitat Zones (FHZ), and other areas within a forest compartment where harvesting cannot take place.
By mutual agreement of the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) & Forest Products Commission (FPC), 1-year harvest plans from 2007 onwards would use each coupe's net size (net plan area, in hectares), which is the current size of the couple less any previously identified informal reserves, Fauna Habitat Zones (FHZ), and other areas within a forest compartment where harvesting cannot take place.
Region names
In 2002, the 1-year harvest plan presented coupes in region groupings different from those in use since 2003. This is due to the structure of the mapping systems and regional configurations of the day.
There is generally not a direct correlation between the region name used in 2002, and those region names used since.
