TROPICAL

The FPC has an important role in the development of timber industries based on the supply of tropical timbers from plantations in the Kimberley region of WA

Our major research trials are located at Kununurra and focus on developing silvicultural systems for the production of Indian sandalwood. In addition, lesser-known sandalwood species from throughout the world have been established and are being trialled as potential plantation species.

High value tropical timbers have also been established and continue to be evaluated for their potential. These include mahoganies, ebonies, teak and rosewoods.

To date over 40 hectares of trial plots have been established at Kununurra and the FPC will continue expanding this small but valuable resource.
