Overview of our business

The Forest Products Commission (FPC) has been in operation since November 2000 as Western Australia’s Statutory Authority managing our state’s commercial forestry activities.

FPC has a legislated mandate to develop the forestry industry in Western Australia, enshrined in the Forest Products Act 2000.

We operate in a dynamic environment, influenced by domestic and global market forces and evolving Government policies relating to water use, salinity, climate change and forestry.

To achieve this end, FPC understands the important of developing innovative and strategic ways to work with a wide variety of organisations and businesses.

Some of our areas of business include:

• planting and environmental management services;
• climate change management solutions, including helping organisations achieve a carbon neutral position;
• diversification of on-farm income;
• landcare and water table management;
• renewable energy;
• research and development and;
• future opportunities in wood processing and usage.

Environmental responsibility

Ecologically sustainable forest management is one of the FPC’s key guiding principles, enshrined in the Forest Products Act 2000.

In order to deliver on our vision of a flourishing environment, FPC maintains its unwavering commitment to environmental protection in everything we do.

This commitment is demonstrated, through rigorous internal processes and environmental controls, continuous education and workforce development, strong stakeholder engagement, continuous improvement and independent auditing and certification of our processes, systems and procedures.

Regional development

The FPC has also developed wide ranging industry plans for four regional areas of Western Australia, which identify the best species for local growing conditions, and establishes plantation targets necessary to stimulate the development of downstream processing industries. The implementation of these industry plans will result in increased employment opportunities for regional areas and resulting social benefits.
