MEDIA RELEASE
Baden Powell campsite temporary closure
22 February 2006
The Baden Powell campsite and Park Road has been closed due to plantation harvesting, but will reopen for the Labour Day long weekend and Easter.
The Forest Products Commission is harvesting 60 hectares of mature parts of the Murray Pine Plantation, along the Murray River. The trees are in high demand for use in housing construction.
Every effort is being made to minimise inconvenience to recreational users of the area, however, due to the proximity of tree felling, Baden Powell campsite and Park Road will be closed outside of school and public holidays during the next few months.
Access to the river will be possible using Murray Valley Road.
The sawlogs will be transported to Bunbury via Dwellingup or Waroona.
The harvesting plan has been developed in consultation with the department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) and in compliance with Environmental Management System AS/NZS ISO 14001 which is an internationally recognised standard.
The area will be regenerated.
