Our Science and Resources Branch is seeking keen agroforestry and ecohydrology students looking to build their skills and knowledge, through casual employment and opportunities to work with some of the state’s leading forest scientists.

Successful candidates would be providing assistance to Science and Resources staff in establishing field sites, collecting basic soils, plant and hydrological data and collating results as part of the Strategic Tree Farming Monitoring and Evaluation Project.

Some of their duties will include;

  • collecting, collating and preparing soil samples;
  • using GPS and GIS;
  • installing piezometers and neutron access tubes;
  • installing dataloggers and sensors of various types in streams/weather stations/bores;
  • downloading loggers and collating data; and
  • establishing and measuring tree growth plots.

Field work will be at locations all across the state from Moora to Albany and involve overnight stays where necessary (accommodation and meals covered by FPC). Some work may also be undertaken at the Rivervale and Gnangara offices.

Ideally, candidates would be second and third year students with a flexible schedule that can accommodate occasional field trips between two to three days. The capacity for active field work and possession of a valid driver’s licence is essential to the position

Employment will be on a casual basis for up to 12 months, under the supervision of FPC field and research staff.
