FREEDOM OF INFORMATION
Under Section 96(1) of the Freedom of Information Act, each government agency must prepare and publish annually an information statement.
The FPC's information statement provides details on:
- our structure and function;
- effects of the FPC on members of the public;
- how we encourage participation by the public in policy making decisions;
- the kinds of documents held by the FPC;
- freedom of information access arrangements, procedures and contact points;
- how to request amendments to any personal information which may be held by us; and
- locations and contact information of our various offices.

Making a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act
It is the aim of the FPC to make information available promptly and at the least possible cost, and wherever possible documents will be provided outside the freedom of information (FOI) process.If information is not routinely available, the Freedom of Information Act provides you the right to apply for documents held by the FPC and to enable the public to ensure that personal information in documents is accurate, complete, up to date and not misleading.
Our information statement provides full details on how to make a FOI request, including required information, response times, arrangements to access material or to appeal a decision, and the scale of fees and charges set under the the Act.
Lodging you freedom of information request
Applications under the Act can only be lodged in writing and must:
- be submitted using the form, Application for access to documents;
- include sufficient information so that the documents requested can be identified;
- provide an Australian address to which notices can be sent; and
- include any application fee payable.
