ARID

Our Arid region encompasses over 90 per cent of the State, covering all areas with the exception of the South West forests. This massive area contains a wide variety of species due to its varied landforms and soil types that offer traditional and non-traditional forest products.

It is renowned for its quality Goldfields eucalyptus, unique desert craft woods such as, beefwood, corkwood, native willow and Western myall, and is home to the most numerous and widespread of all Australian trees, the mulga.

Timber from this region have been used by Aboriginal people as traditional weapons, in modern day mining infrastructure, as fuel in steam boilers and water pumps, furniture, veneers, musical instruments, turnery and specialist flooring.

Today the FPC is developing unique silvicultural systems that accommodate the nature of arid forestry in order to provide the timber industry with low volumes of timber that can provide high value furniture and craft items.
