SUSTAINABILITY
Within the next decade, 90% of Western Australia's timber products are
expected to come from plantations. To ensure this is achievable, all timber
planting, harvesting and marketing is managed with a strong sustainability
focus.
The Forest Products Commission (FPC) is responsible for the sustainable
management of all WA timbers, whether they are located on private or public
land.
The three principles by which the FPC supports sustainable forest management
are:
- maintaining the ecological processes within forests (the formation of soil, energy flows, and carbon, nutrient and water cycles)
- maintaining the biological diversity of forests
- optimising the full range of environmental, economic and social benefits the community from all uses
